KRAFTON’s “Dinkum” joins Steam Free Weekend event

The Steam Free Weekend presents a fantastic opportunity for gamers worldwide to explore select paid titles without cost for a limited time. It’s a chance to dive into new experiences and see what a game has to offer before committing to a purchase.

Featured in a recent event was Dinkum, a charming life-simulation and town-building game with a unique flavor. Developed by independent Australian creator James Bendon, Dinkum first welcomed players into its Early Access phase on Steam in July 2022. Its journey has since evolved, with KRAFTON taking over global distribution and operations for the game as of February 2025, aiming to bring the experience to an even wider audience.

Deeply inspired by the vast and diverse Australian wilderness, Dinkum invites players to carve out their own slice of paradise on a picturesque island. The core of the game revolves around developing a personal town, starting from humble beginnings. Players get hands-on with gathering resources from the environment, engaging in activities like hunting, mining, and fishing, and using their finds to build structures and customize their surroundings. The freedom to shape the island landscape and construct buildings that genuinely reflect individual style allows for wonderful creative expression. Beyond building, the game encourages forming meaningful relationships with the island’s endearing NPC residents, fostering a sense of community and working together to manage a small but thriving settlement through rich and engaging interactions.

Since its initial Early Access launch, the game has clearly resonated with players globally, achieving impressive milestones including selling over one million copies. This commercial success is mirrored in its user reception on Steam, where it boasts a “Very Positive” overall review rating – a strong indication of the game’s quality, charm, and widespread appeal among the gaming community. Highlighting its commitment to reaching players across different linguistic backgrounds, a significant update in February of this year introduced support for 14 official languages, further broadening Dinkum‘s reach and making the unique island life accessible to even more potential town builders worldwide.
